Heart - Worship Service

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Jesus replied:

'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'' Matt. 22:36-39

Our community’s primary gathering is our Sunday morning worship service which begins at 9:45 AM.

What will You Encounter?  Our Sunday worship service is a space that we have carved out in time for the purpose of seeking and encountering God and being formed - as individuals and as a community of friends. Spiritual formation is the process of lives being transformed to live, serve and love in the Way of Jesus.

Toward that end, we engage in a number of different elements during our worship gathering together. You are invited to participate at whatever level of engagement is right for you.

+ Singing  Music is an ancient, beautiful, and powerful form of expression. We regularly use music to express ourselves to God, just as the Psalms in the Old Testament scriptures do: we praise, we’re honest about what we need, we confess, we lament, we celebrate, and we find hope. We seek to honor God as we express ourselves honestly before him.

+ Greeting We take time to greet one another every Sunday morning. Greeting one another isn’t simply a filler activity until we move onto more important things. Jesus teaches that loving one’s neighbor is akin to loving God. We set aside time before & after our gathering to practice hospitality and extend a word of hope and encouragement to one another.

+ Preaching  Every week we hear, encounter, learn and tell the story of God & His people. We read from the Bible and look for intersections with our everyday lives. Sometimes the format is participatory – we dialogue together and seek feedback, we read the scriptures aloud and share our convictions and opinions.

+ Communion  We partake of communion on the first Sunday of every month. In communion (also known as the Lord’s Supper or the Eucharist), we celebrate and commemorate the meal Jesus shared with his disciples where he told his disciples that his body would soon be broken and his blood shed for all people. We receive communion as spiritual nourishment, participating in the life of God. We practice an open communion, which means that we invite anyone who is a follower of Jesus Christ to participate in the celebration of this meal with us.

+ Prayer  Prayer is an important part of our community life together. We believe with conviction that prayer heals the world, prayer moves the heart of God, and prayer has the power to change us. We devote time and space at every gathering to prayer. Prayer requests can be emailed to the church office.

+ Offering  At The New Beginning we understand that all areas of life are connected, including faith, time, family, work, our body, and our resources. We also understand that one of the ways we partner with God to bring healing and good news to the world is through our tithes and our offerings. The question that guides us is not, “How much can I hold onto to?” but “How much of myself can I give away?” Followers of Jesus have always understood that 100% of our resources come from him – we consider it pure joy and an act of faithful obedience to give as much as we can back to God’s healing work in the world.
